Before you embark on your first ride of the summer, take a look at your Edinburg motorcycle insurance policy. If the premium is a bit higher than you'd like, you should consider looking for a discount this summer. Many insurance companies will reward you for common activities that also will reduce your chance of an accident.

Join a Motorcycle Club

Becoming a member of a motorcycle club this summer is a great way to meet other bike enthusiasts and get a break on your insurance rates. Insurance companies may offer discounts to members of clubs like the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Riders of Kawasaki and the Motorcycle Touring Association. If you're not interested in a motorcycle club, examine your other club memberships. Being a member of AAA, AARP or other clubs unrelated to motorcycles may also qualify you for a discount.

Install an Antitheft System

Protecting your bike from theft using a LoJack, GPS Snitch or another antitheft device can also lower your insurance rates. Some insurance companies also offer rebates on specific devices, which will lower your initial cost. Before picking an antitheft monitor, be sure to do some research. Some devices, like LoJack, require that the local police have a scanner that specifically works with that product. Other antitheft devices require professional installation to be effective. No matter which antitheft device you pick, keep your receipts as proof of ownership.

Take a Safety Course

Even if you're an experienced rider, consider taking a motorcycle safety course this summer to brush up on your skills. Some insurance companies offer a discount if you take an approved safety course once every three years. If you're not familiar with the courses offered in your area, try taking a class affiliated with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation. The MSF offers courses for novice, intermediate and advanced riders, so you can learn new skills at any level of experience.

Bundle All of Your Recreational Vehicles

If you have a boat, ATV or other summer recreational vehicle, try bundling all of your policies together for a discount. Even if boat or ATV insurance isn't required in your state, consider signing up for a policy to preserve your peace of mind. Having all of your insurance policies with one company can give you a larger discount, but you should know that not all insurance agencies will insure all recreational vehicles.

Find All of Your Possible Discounts

Other opportunities to save will depend on the type of motorcycle you own, where you store it and how often you ride. If you're over 25, have a good driving record or only ride your bike in the summer, you should also ask an insurance agent about the likelihood of getting a discount. To discuss all of the discount possibilities that apply to your specific set of circumstances, call Raymond Longoria Insurance at 888-296-0345.
